My First Piece of ‘Garden Art’

As this is my first ever blog post on my new website I thought it would be fitting to write about my very first garden art purchase.

Many, many years ago I used to go to the Art’s Centre market in Christchurch. This was always one of my favourite places to go on a Saturday morning. There were so many interesting stalls and great food and coffee carts. It was a real outing – a social event, always there and always lots going on. And who can forget sitting outside at the Dux on a sunny weekend morning with friends, family, vistors…?

There were so many gorgeous things for sale but I distinctly remember being drawn to the stall selling metal art made from copper. I coveted many of the items on display but the prices were too high for poor old me!

I thought long and hard about what I would like to purchase from that funky little stall, but in the end price dictated my eventual purchase. I ended up with a little copper gecko for $40 – this was a lot of money to pay almost 20 years ago – yikes 1996(ish)!!!

Well, believe it or not, I still have the little copper gecko. It has graced many walls around my various properties and is now awaiting a new place in our house up here in Nelson. I still haven’t decided where to put it. Todd suggested cleaning it up and selling it – I was horrified – NO WAY!

I think this first purchase of mine sowed the seeds form my small business today. I loved garden art but mostly I couldn’t afford it. Now  I sell pplenty of cool things many of which are easily affordable and they make lots of people happy.
